Katy Perry and Russell Brand have been keeping low profiles since Friday's divorce announcement, but on a brand-new song that just hit the Net, Perry sings about falling for the wrong guy.
The song, which Perry co-wrote, is actually a demo version of the Jessie James track "Bullet." While the song has many country music flourishes thanks to twangy guitars, the lyrics — minus references to cowboy boots and country accents — work for Perry. She opens with the lines: "My mama warned me about boys like you/ It's the reason I wear these high-heeled boots/ And let me give you a little piece of advice/ My papa packs heat and he won't think twice." And the song's big chorus is signature Perry. On the sing-along refrain, Perry belts out, "I'm a bullet and I'm headed/ Straight for your heart/ Be careful what you start/ I'm a bullet and I'm headed/ Straight for your heart/ It's gonna leave a mark." Although the song eventually landed on James' 2009 self-titled debut, the timing of the leak coincides with the news of Perry's split from comedian Brand after a little more than a year. Brand was spotted in his native England on Saturday, one day after the news broke of their breakup, while Perry, who has yet to speak about the split, is slated to perform at two concerts this month: one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in Manila, in the Philippines. When MTV News spoke to some experts about Perry and Brand's breakup, they noted that the divorce didn't come as a surprise to them. "From the get-go, I thought they were a sort of odd, mismatched pair," David Caplan, a celebrity news editor who has worked at publications including People and Star, told us. "She's so glamorous, pop and sexy, and he is diametrically not like that. He's a nice and funny guy, and from my encounters with her, I found her to be funny, have a sarcastic edge and a blast, but they weren't a match. Eminem wasn't the first-ever white rapper, but when Slim Shady kicked in hip-hop's doors in 1999, he was still an anomaly. In 2011, Yelawolf doesn't have quite the same difficulty, as the white rapper stigma, for the most part, has subsided. It's a topic that Em and Yela discuss in the December/January issue of Vibe magazine.
In the magazine's cover story, Eminem tells veteran writer Erik Parker that he and Wolf, who Em signed to Shady Records earlier this year, hardly consider race while in the studio. "We make jokes about it, but I don't think we talk about it in depth," he said. "As I was listening to his music, I am not even thinking about any of that sh--. It's just the music. That's one of the things that's great about it. I'm not even thinking about it when I hear the music." They did make light of it in the studio, however. "We do poke fun of it because it's funny. Like, he calls me White Dog," Yela said. "Yeah, or Beige Sheep," Em joked. Growing up in Alabama, Yela learned a lot about race relations, especially as it pertains to hip-hop culture. And while a rapper like Kreayshawn affiliate V-Nasty may feel comfortable dropping the N-word, Wolf insists that that is a no-no. "[In Alabama] we have a dark history concerning the relationship between black and white people. I'm not a role model by any means, but if I said it around the house, I got popped in the mouth," he said. Eminem insists that race is secondary to music. "We deal with it enough as it is. So now, let's make music," Eminem said. "Let's make great records. At the end of the day, that's all there is to do," Yela, whose debut album, Radioactive, hits shelves November 21, added. When the topic of drugs came up, a clean and sober Em joked that he recently shot heroin, making light of a situation that he had previously taken so seriously. That opened the door for Yela to talk about his own experience with narcotics. "I started smoking weed at 11. By 12, I was smoking dust. Thirteen, acid, Freon, Special K, mushrooms; 16 years old, I was selling X pills at school. Not even because I was a good dope boy, but because I was a scumbag," the tatted-up rapper revealed. "It was called chocolate chip, and it had heroin in it. I used to take that sh-- and go to class. I went so heavy into drugs that I had a bad trip one time that lasted for months." The December/January issue of Vibe magazine hits newsstands nationwide on December 6.

PETA's youth division, peta2, is giving props to celebs like Justin Bieber, Ke$ha and "Glee" star Lea Michele at this year's Libby Awards for their efforts in support of animal rights. The Biebs, who appeared in a campaign for the organization at the top of the year using Bieber-fied catch-phrases like "My world includes passion for animals, yours should too" and "Animals can make u smile. Adopt from your local shelter," is taking on fellow animal-loving pop star Ke$ha and rappers k-os and Waka Flocka Flame in the Most Animal-Friendly Pop/Hip-Hop Artist category. Ke$ha appeared in an ad campaigning against the slaughter of Canadian seals. Michele, who speaks out against the mistreatment of carriage horses in New York City, faces off against "Jackass" star Steve-O, Cobra Starship's leading man and peta2's Sexiest Vegetarian Gabe Saporta, and "Victorious" star Daniella Monet in the Top Animal-Friendly Celebrity category. The Ready Set, Tokio Hotel, Hellogoodbye and the Swellers are all up for Most Animal-Friendly Band. Ke$ha and Tokio are also up for Best peta2 ad along with Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness and Yelle. The Libby (as in "Liberation") Awards will be decided on January 17 by fan votes as well as peta2. Voting ends December 23. "Our nominees have all worked hard to shine their spotlights on a variety of important animal issues," peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg said about the nominees, which honors animal-friendly people and products. "As our accomplished stars demonstrate, compassion isn't just a virtue — it's also a road to success."

It's a merry Christmas for all of Lady Gaga's Little Monsters. Mother Monster herself played Santa to all her fans when she presented them with an unreleased song at midnight on Christmas Day.
"Been racking my brain on what to get Little Monsters for Christmas!! I finally figured it out!!" Gaga tweeted on December 22. "On Christmas Day I will leak to you an unreleased Song off Born This Way! It was recorded live, in one take, on the tour bus. Uncensored." "Stuck on F***in You," which was recorded on the road in Minnesota during her Monster Ball tour, captures the feeling of a late-night jam session, where Gaga's voice soars over just a guitar and drum machine. It's a stripped down, bluesy joint that showcases her humor and flair for improvisation. "We were all wasted on the bus making records," Gaga tweeted Saturday (December 24) night, "It's such a timecapsule of the spirit of our creativity. I wrote, sang and freestyled the last minute + half of the song." Gaga is spending at least part of her holidays abroad. "Well, I'll be in Japan right up until Christmas Day," Gaga told MTV News earlier this month. "So I'll be eating with all my Japanese Little Monsters. I like shabu shabu [a form of Japanese hot pot]." Lady Gaga, who was MTV News' Top Newsmaker of 2011, will be ringing in the new year in her hometown of New York. The "Marry the Night" singer, along with Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Florence and the Machine, will watch the ball drop at the 40th annual "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve." The event will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with appearances by Fergie and Jenny McCarthy.

T.I. Pumps New Album With 'Intellectual Ignorance'

Who records more than 70 songs for his album and estimates that it's only 75 percent done? T.I., that's who. Since his release from prison in September, Tip has been releasing music nonstop. Aside from the slew of remixes he's done for others (Meek Mill's "Ima Boss" and 2 Chainz's "Spend It") and the mixtape he just dropped on New Year's Day (F--k da City Up), the King of the South is working overtime on his upcoming eighth solo album, Trouble Man.
"The album is about 75 percent done. We got a lot of hot, old-school, vintage T.I. records on there," Tip told MTV News in December while he was in Atlanta promoting his mixtape. "I'm talking like gutter, gangsta, intellectual ignorance, hard-core stadium sh--, but at the same time we got those over-the-top crossover records as well, big features and whatnot that we plan on putting into play."
T.I. started his career with 2001's I'm Serious, and while his debut album didn't make a major impact on the charts, songs like the drug-selling ode "Dope Boyz" made him a prominent fixture in Atlanta's underground. Through the years, T.I. has been able to straddle the line, mixing dirty street anthems with pop hits like "Live Your Life" with Rihanna and "Dead and Gone" with Justin Timberlake.
While T.I. maintains Trouble Man will have an overwhelming street appeal, judging from the LP's features it will have a rhythmic influence and possible pop presence as well. "I got one with Akon, did a few records with Rico Love. Man, I got records with just about everybody," he said. "We just putting it together, we done did about 70 records. So now we're in the narrowing-down process. So we'll narrow them down, we'll do probably about 15 more."
It's quite possible that some of the next 15 or so records that Tip records will be with Dr. Dre, whom he collaborated with on F--k da City Up. "We plan on getting back in and coming up with a few more, so you never know what could become of that," he said.

It's a new year and that means that there's lots of ooey-gooey pop goodness all ready to pour out in 2012. Between celebrity babies, music and Hollywood, fans should gear up for some really big stuff in the coming year. But if history has taught us anything, as hard as we might plan, pop culture always has a way of sneaking up and surprising us. Not that we're complaining. So get your planners out: MTV News is looking ahead at what to expect in the world of pop culture.
Music
There are lots of big album releases slated for 2012. Crossover queen Nicki Minaj will release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded just in time to show her Barbz and Kenz some love on Valentine's Day. Madonna already has confirmed that she will drop her next album come spring. Fans already got a taste of it when the single "Gimme All Your Luvin' " leaked on the Internet. "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert is readying the release of his next album, Trespassing, set to drop in March. Willow Smith's fans should whip their hair back and forth as the tween's long-simmering debut album, Knees and Elbows, will finally drop in April. Justin Bieber has teased his Believe album for a summer release. He's shared that it will pick up where Justin Timberlake left off before he decided to focus on his acting. Basically, he's bringing sexy back. There are two forthcoming albums that don't have exact release dates but are highly anticipated nonetheless. Lady Gaga is already thinking about her next album and recently revealed to MTV News that she even has a title for her Born This Way follow-up in mind. Taylor Swift is knee-deep in and working hard on her follow-up to her phenomenally successful Speak Now. TV
In between pumping out tunes, some big shows will also return in 2012. Everything from "The Secret Circle" to "2 Broke Girls" to "New Girl" will be back for more fun come the new year. After a break, "Pretty Little Liars" will be back midseason. Will we finally find out who "A" is when season 2 resumes on January 2? Well, only that texting antagonist knows the answer. There are many other mysteries on "The Vampire Diaries" that will also have to be resolved once that show picks up again on January 5. And if all that drama is too much to handle, "Glee" will be back for more sing-along good times on January 17, with the Michael Jackson tribute episode airing one week later.
Celebrity Babies
2012 is poised to be a big year for famous babies. OK, so 2011 saw Mariah Carey and Dem Babies, but some of the most famous ladies in La La Land and beyond will become first-time moms in the new year, giving MC and her family a run for their money. Beyoncé and Jay-Z will welcome their first child into the world any day now. The twosome revealed they were in the family way at the VMAs back in August. Jessica Simpson and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, will also welcome their first little bundle of joy. The news of the pregnancy came after a lot of speculation about Simpson's expanding midsection. As it turns out, it's a big year for triple-threat moms-to-be, with Hilary Duff also expecting a baby come 2012.

Kelly Clarkson Talks About Reuniting With 'SNL' 'Family'
Saturday will be the pop singer's third time as the show's musical guest.

This weekend, Kelly Clarkson is making her third appearance on "Saturday Night Live" as the musical guest. But the bubbly singer insists that being a part of NBC's iconic show will never feel old hat.
"I'm a three-peat! I've made it," Clarkson exclaimed to MTV News when we caught up with her at rehearsals. "It's a legendary stage! I've been watching it since I was a kid. I think we all have."
More so than the enormity of playing Studio 8H, Clarkson said she digs the vibe of the cast and crew. "It's a fun environment. You don't feel like you're working ... This is like a family place. Everybody here is nice to people who aren't famous. You know what I'm saying? They're nice to my makeup artist, my hair guy ... I hate people who are just nice to famous people. It bothers me. I want to kick 'em," she chuckled.
Clarkson still thinks about her first appearance on "SNL" in 2005, when she became the first "American Idol" winner to snag a musical guest spot. Even cooler, she got to flex her comedic muscles in a couple of skits with former cast members Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. "I remember I was so excited. First of all, Horatio? He's hard to do skits with because you laugh 'cause he laughs all the time at [himself]. So you're laughing 'cause he's laughing, and I'm trying to keep a straight face. I had so much fun."
But this go-around, Clarkson's too busy to participate in any sketches, even though the politically charged "SNL" could write comedy gold for Clarkson, who recently found herself in the middle of the presidential race when she casually tweeted about digging Ron Paul's campaign. The singer's always down to poke fun at herself and be goofy, but alas, tour rehearsals are top priority. "We're literally flying in and out [of New York]. Charles Barkley's hosting, so he's doing all the skits."
Kelly fans can still look forward to two high-energy performances. During Saturday night's show, Clarkson and her band will rock her #1 single, "Mr. Know It All," as well as her latest hit, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)."

With 2011 out of the door and the New Year upon us, Maino is looking forward to the coming 12 months. Every year since 2009, the Brooklyn MC has released a predictions-themed song. On his "2011 Predictions" Main successfully guessed that Lindsay Lohan would have relapsing bouts with alcohol and that the Throne would sell over a million records. On Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Maino dropped some major 2012 predictions.
"I got a couple," the rapper admitted when Sway asked him what reveals he had for the next 12 months. "Forget what you heard, Obama's gonna win." That wasn't all, however. "This is the year you gonna see a transformation for me. I'm gonna be like a different person. I'm gonna get caught up in a love triangle," Maino said, pausing before adding, "with Rihanna and Katy Perry." Maino's playful prediction may seem far-fetched, but with the news that Perry's hubby Russell Brand has filed for divorce, the pop star is back on the market. As far as Rihanna, the Bajan beauty revealed to Ellen DeGeneres in a November 2011 interview that she is very single. So from a logistical standpoint anything is possible — we guess. That wasn't all. Maino, who has stood as one of rap's top street artists, says he is about to undergo an artistic change as well. "I'm leaving rap. I'm leaving hip-hop. I'm gonna become an R&B artist. I'ma be the artist formerly known as Maino, but my new name is gonna be Jaguar Paw," he joked. "These is my predictions." What do you think of Maino's predictions for 2012? Tell us in the comments!
